Face

The face is traditionally the most visible part of a person’s body. It can reflect our moods and attitudes in both a conscious and unconscious manner. Both the natural aging process as well as genetics have a profound effect upon how our face is seen by ourselves and others.

Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is performed to reduce the effects of gravity and time. The aging face is often characterized by ever-deepening lines, the descent and loosening of skin, fat, and muscle of the mid- and lower-face that previously were fuller and more supported during youth, and the sometimes unsightly excess skin and prominent bands visible in the neck. Surely, not every patient will have the same degree of concern as the next. However, a facelift procedure can address all of these issues by tightening the underlying muscles and removing and tightening excess skin and fat. These changes result in a restoration of a more youthful and fresh appearance. Incisions are placed as inconspicuously as possible and the scars tend to fade as time progresses.

Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty)

Nasal surgery can be performed for both functional as well as aesthetic purposes. There are those patients that seek nasal surgery for a deviated septum, in which a portion of the internal nose is asymmetric and may result in breathing difficulties. On the other hand, there are others who are simply unhappy with the shape and general appearance of their nose. There are a myriad of options as far as which portion of the nose can be altered, not to mention the variety of surgical techniques available when discussing aesthetic nasal surgery. However, the important fact remains that because the nose is such a prominent feature of an individual’s face, even subtle, small adjustments can result in significantly positive changes.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)

Both the upper and lower eyelids are amongst the thinnest skin of the human body. They serve as a barrier between the outside world and the deeper tissues around the eye, such as fat, a membranous layer called the septum, and muscle. With time, there can be stretching of all of these tissues, typically resulting in a “hooded” appearance of the upper eyelid and a “puffy” appearance of the lower eyelid. There are numerous techniques available to correct these problems which Dr. Pathy will discuss with you and tailor to your needs.

While a lower blepharoplasty is generally considered an aesthetic procedure, an upper blepharoplasty can sometimes be covered by insurance. A consultation with an ophthalmologist or optometrist can be undertaken to test for visual field disturbances. If your upper eyelid skin excess results in difficulty in seeing the normal full field of vision, you may be eligible for insurance coverage.

Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, also known as fat grafting or fat injection, has seen a steadily rising popularity.  It essentially involves improving defects or deformities in contour with one’s own, natural tissue. During this process, fat is extracted from an area of the patient’s body, such as the abdomen, in a process similar to liposuction. However, unlike liposuction, which targets pockets of fat for removal, fat grafting additionally focuses upon replacing the fat to specific areas to enhance volume. The fat which has been extracted is gently processed through one of a number of different methods to yield purified fat, separating it from the extraneous fluids. This purified fat is subsequently injected into an area, such as the face, to achieve an immediate improvement in contouring. For additional details on fat transfer, please click here.

Earlobe Surgery

The earlobe is a surprisingly frequent area of concern for many patients. Earrings can result in keloid (overgrown scar) formation in certain susceptible individuals, especially those who are darker-skinned. Keloids can be cared for in a variety of ways. Click here to view a general discussion on keloids and their treatment.

A split-earlobe is not uncommon in individuals who have a history of wearing heavy earrings, or in those who have endured a traumatic injury. The procedure to repair the elongated earlobe hole can be done in the office under local anesthesia. While it may be several weeks before you can wear an earring again, the risk of further damaging the earlobe as well as the overall aesthetic result is improved.
