Skin Cancer
The skin is susceptible to developing pre-malignant and malignant lesions, often the result of years of sun exposure. Common skin cancers include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. Dr. Pathy can perform excisions of a variety of these lesions and subsequently perform the necessary closure or reconstruction of the resulting defect.
In addition, Dr. Pathy often coordinates with Dermatologists who perform specialized types of skin lesion excisions themselves using Mohs surgery. With this type of excision, the Dermatologist removes sequential layers of tissue and examines them under a microscope to ensure that all of the malignant tissue has been removed. This type of surgery is usually reserved for specific areas, such as on the face, which may benefit from the most minimal excision possible to limit the deformity. Dr. Pathy is often consulted to repair and reconstruct the resulting defect in these sensitive areas after Mohs surgery is performed.
